A fun fact is that the Australian flag was created from a design contest in 1901. It represents the Union Jack on the left as a symbol of the British colony, below it the great seven-armed Star of the Commonwealth of Australia and on the right side a representation of the Southern Cross. Since 1908 the flag is used in its current design.
